The octane falls, the fuel goes sour and darkens, and a skin of gum forms that fouls jets and injectors. On top of that it is classified as hazardous waste, so the drain, the shed and the wheelie bin are all off limits. Volume is rarely an obstacle. A single jerry can, the tank of a barn-find, or a store of mixed old petrol from a workshop clear-out are all straightforward to lift once we know the rough litres and where it is. Collection puts the burden on the carrier, not you: they attend, pump out the petrol, inspect what held it and remove it under licence, leaving the transfer note behind as evidence. The practical side of a collection is access and volume. Once we know both for the site in Thornhill Cwmbran, the carrier attends on a booked slot, pumps the fuel out and documents it, often the same day for reachable tanks. ## Local Welsh old petrol collector in Thornhill Cwmbran: the facts Fuel | Old petrol | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | Torfaen | Postcode districts | NP44 | Why it degrades | Oxidises and loses octane in 3-6 months; E10 also absorbs water | Typical sources | Classic cars, motorbikes, mowers, generators, boats, jerry cans, clearances | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | Natural Resources Wales | Typical cost | Quoted per litre or per job | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old petrol comes from around Thornhill Cwmbran In Thornhill Cwmbran the usual sources of old petrol we collect are jerry cans and spare fuel aged in a shed or garage, and the last of the petrol in a car being sold, scrapped or SORNed. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old petrol and issues a waste transfer note on site. **How do you know petrol has gone off?** It darkens, smells sour or like varnish rather than sharp, and may look cloudy where ethanol has drawn in water. If in doubt, do not try to burn it. **Can I just pour old petrol away?** No. Petrol is flammable hazardous waste. Putting it down a drain, onto the ground or in a bin is an offence and a fire risk. A registered carrier removes it under a transfer note. **Can old petrol be recycled?** Once collected it goes to a licensed facility where it is processed for recovery or safe disposal. That routing is handled for you and documented on the transfer note. **How much old petrol will you take?** Anything from a single can to a full vehicle tank or a bulk store. Tell us the rough volume in litres and you get a price before anyone travels. ### Other sites in this network Fuel Fixer Wales is part of Stockbridge Capital Holdings › Fuel Fixer International › Fuel Fixer Ltd.
