Oxidation darkens it, water invites the microbial bug that sludges the tank, and the cold turns it waxy. Since it is hazardous waste, it has to be removed by someone licensed. Bulk and bowser volumes are routine. Whether it is a few hundred litres in a standby generator or a few thousand in a farm tank, the collection is booked against the volume and the access rather than turned away for size. Disposal is what keeps you clean under duty-of-care rules: the diesel goes to a permitted facility rather than anywhere convenient, and the transfer note proves where it went and when. Disposal is where duty of care bites. Under the rules the waste is yours until it reaches a permitted facility, so the transfer note issued in Hay-on-Wye — recording what left, when and where it went — is the document that keeps you covered if it is ever questioned. ## Local Welsh old diesel disposal in Hay-on-Wye: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | Powys | Postcode districts | HR3 | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | Natural Resources Wales | Typical cost | Quoted per litre or per job | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Hay-on-Wye We collect and dispose of old diesel across Hay-on-Wye from old bulk stores being decommissioned, businesses winding down, and tanks emptied before replacement. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. **Do you clean the tank as well?** We remove the fuel and can arrange a tank clean where the bug or sludge means the vessel needs it before reuse. Tell us the condition when you call. **How quickly can old diesel be collected?** Often the same day for accessible sites, otherwise a booked slot. The quote and window are confirmed before anyone travels. ### Other sites in this network Fuel Fixer Wales is part of Stockbridge Capital Holdings › Fuel Fixer International › Fuel Fixer Ltd.
