Condensation puts water in the tank, the water feeds the microbial bloom known as diesel bug, and the result is a dark, hazy fuel full of sludge that clogs filters and injectors. Bulk and bowser volumes are routine. Whether it is a few hundred litres in a standby generator or a few thousand in a farm tank, the collection is booked against the volume and the access rather than turned away for size. At collection a carrier comes to the diesel wherever it sits, draws it out, checks for residue in the tank or cans, and carries it away — the transfer note recording exactly what was lifted. For a collection in Newtown the useful things to have ready are the volume in litres and how the tank or cans are reached — a tanker needs different access to a van. With that we quote and book, and the lift itself is quick once the carrier is on site. ## Local Welsh old diesel collector in Newtown: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | Powys | Postcode districts | SY16 | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | Natural Resources Wales | Typical cost | Quoted per litre or per job | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Newtown Around Newtown the old diesel we collect comes from standby and rental gensets taken out of service, and pump and compressor sets sold on. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **What is diesel bug?** A microbial growth that lives at the boundary of water and diesel in a standing tank. It forms a dark sludge that blocks filters and lines and is a common reason stored diesel has to be removed. **Is old diesel hazardous waste?** Yes. Like petrol it cannot be tipped away or binned. A registered carrier pumps it out and it is disposed of through a permitted facility, with a transfer note issued on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. ### Other sites in this network Fuel Fixer Wales is part of Stockbridge Capital Holdings › Fuel Fixer International › Fuel Fixer Ltd.
