Sediment, water and microbial sludge collect below the draw-off, waiting to block the first filter downstream once the tank is used again. Cold weather adds a second failure mode. As diesel ages and the temperature drops, wax crystals form and gel, and old fuel gels sooner than fresh. A tank that ran last summer can refuse to flow the following winter. At collection a carrier comes to the diesel wherever it sits, draws it out, checks for residue in the tank or cans, and carries it away — the transfer note recording exactly what was lifted. A collection is arranged around your site in Blackwood: we match the kit to the access, quote per litre on the volume, and book a window. The lift is a short visit — pump out, check the vessel, issue the note. ## Local Welsh old diesel collector in Blackwood: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | Caerphilly | Postcode districts | NP12 | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | Natural Resources Wales | Typical cost | Quoted per litre or per job | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Blackwood Around Blackwood the old diesel we collect comes from boats and marine tanks out of the water, and construction plant demobilised from a finished site. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **What is diesel bug?** A microbial growth that lives at the boundary of water and diesel in a standing tank. It forms a dark sludge that blocks filters and lines and is a common reason stored diesel has to be removed. **Is old diesel hazardous waste?** Yes. Like petrol it cannot be tipped away or binned. A registered carrier pumps it out and it is disposed of through a permitted facility, with a transfer note issued on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. ### Other sites in this network Fuel Fixer Wales is part of Stockbridge Capital Holdings › Fuel Fixer International › Fuel Fixer Ltd.
