When the tank has to be emptied, the old oil is hazardous waste. The most common call is a boiler upgrade or a switch to a heat pump, leaving a tank of kerosene with nowhere to go. Pumping it out and removing it is a short job once the tank is accessible. Disposal closes the loop: the collected kerosene reaches a permitted facility, is processed or destroyed lawfully, and the transfer note issued on site is your proof it was done right. Disposal is where duty of care bites. Under the rules the waste is yours until it reaches a permitted facility, so the transfer note issued in Gurnos Merthyr Tydfil — recording what left, when and where it went — is the document that keeps you covered if it is ever questioned. ## Local Welsh kerosene disposal in Gurnos Merthyr Tydfil: the facts Fuel | Kerosene | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | Merthyr Tydfil | Postcode districts | CF47, CF48 | Why it degrades | Grows water sludge and bacteria over time; fouls the boiler nozzle | Typical sources | Home heating tanks, decommissioning, boiler upgrades, house sales, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | Natural Resources Wales | Typical cost | Quoted per litre or per job | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where kerosene comes from around Gurnos Merthyr Tydfil Across Gurnos Merthyr Tydfil and its surroundings we collect and dispose of kerosene from domestic heating oil tanks decommissioned when a home switches to a heat pump, gas or a new system.
